I was on a mission trip in the early 2010's through a church I was attending at the time. We visited a day care, and I became particularly attached to a young boy there, Archie. I quickly recognized him being singled out as a social outcast, and I saw a bit of myself in him. I came to understand that he lived in a toxic household. If he couldn't find sanctuary at home, with his peers, or even at the cold hearts of the people that took care of him there, then I was going to give him the acceptance and peace he deserved, however momentary. I spent the whole day with him, until he scraped his knee and pleaded for me to hold him, to which he fell asleep.I held him and cried.
